Genaro Rincon Cruz Jr. is the the 2021-2022 recipient of the Kevin T. Early Memorial Scholarship.
This scholarship is made possible from an endowment by William and Donna Early in memory of their son, a poet, Kevin T. Early. It awards $2000 to a student with freshman standing at UIUC for the 2021-2022 school year.
Our faculty judges had this to say about Genaro's poetry:
"The manuscript stood out for the dynamic way it weaves together Spanish and abstract, elevated diction with vernacular language. The poet also has a strong voice and deftly uses tone and tonal change to complicate each poem and add tension."
