S. Moon Cassinelli is an assistant professor in the Department of English and the Women’s and Gender Studies program at Virginia Tech. Initially a Presidential Pathways Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow (2018-2020), Cassinelli teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in gender studies, multiethnic U.S. literature, Asian American popular culture, critical theory, postcolonial studies, queer theory, and feminist theory. His article on Nora Okja Keller’s Comfort Woman (1997) appeared in a 2019 special issue of WSQ on Asian Diasporas, edited by Lili Shi and Yadira Perez Hazel. While at Virginia Tech, Cassinelli has been involved in various campus initiatives, including the APIDA (Asian Pacific Islander Desi American) Caucus, panels and teach-ins on anti-racist and feminist pedagogies, and working groups for interdisciplinary curricula. In his spare time, Cassinelli enjoys walking the trails of southwest Virginia and locating a worthy local rival to Champaign’s Golden Harbor restaurant (one has yet to be found).
